And the Adventure Continues

So right now I’m sitting Detroit, Michigan. I’m supposed to be at home but my connection from Detroit to home was overbooked and I volunteered to stay the night…why? A $300 flight voucher. Yup. I’m a college kid and we will do things for free stuff. The only thing that would have made it better was if I got a free T-shirt.

Northwest did pay for my hotel, my flight tomorrow, gave me food vouchers, and a $300 flight voucher and provided transportation to and from the airport. So now, I fly home at noonish tomorrow. But I don’t have anything with me, accept my medicine. I meant to pack my toothy brush in my backpack and almost always carry and change of clothes in my carry on but of course not this time. So I bought a $5 toothbrush/toothpaste set from the hotel gift store. It better have some dang good bristle because the “carrying case” it comes in is not worth $5.

It’s really cold in Detroit…glad I was wearing my hoody! I had an amazing time on the North Shore and you can expect some great picture posts about it and some awesomeness that “Under the Overpass” is doing in my brain. But until then….you can just be jealous of the personal day I’m having. Just me, a free hotel room, free food, free cable, free wifi, a great book, and this bed.

And the Adventure Continues

Listening vs. Hearing

Our last series with our middle schoolers was about Skull Candy, those really sweet ear buds. It was all about

“Who and what you plug into will influence what you do.”

Today the lesson was on how God tries to talk to us all the time through different mediums but we don’t hear him. We are too busy or treat Him like a genie that is only allowed to speak when we want Him.

So many times we sit in church and listen to a Pastor feed us. Or we listen to music fused with Biblical principles. Or we read blogs of people whom we view as spiritual leaders in this facet of our lives. We listen to words that are said or sung or typed. We read God’s word and listen as He talks to Moses and the Israelites or as Jesus commands the disciples to go out into the world.

But are we hearing?

We do the action of listening but are we truly hearing.

Are you too busy, too loud, too proud, to scared, to scholarly, to controlling to hear Him?

I am. All too often.

To hear Him would mean I would have to shut up.

I think we all could benefit from a Q-tip now and then. More often now and less then.

Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Listening vs. Hearing

First time for everything

I have never really liked the phrase “there is a first time for everything” because I have to be in the right mood to do new things.

This weekend some of my college friends and I had a girls day to celebrate our 21st birthday. Now that’s a big first in itself. Being an “adult” have the option to do before illegal things. (Don’t worry mommy I’m not crazy or ah i’m 21 let’s drink kinda girl) So we go to eat at PF Changs which was new for me but very yummy in my tum tum. And then….

img_2173

there was a first time for everything.

There was a women’s basketball team from out of state and well………they had a staring problem. A BIG ONE. At first I didn’t really notice until it was getting obvious that they were still looking at our table. And of course for the next 10 times they looked I was like why are they looking at our table….until I realized they were looking at me. Maybe I reminded them of someone? Which was fine but I was eating and it was awkward. THEN, came the camera phone. They were not even discreet about it and Jessica and I looked at each other and she was like, “uh I glared at them while they took the picture if that makes you feel better” Where were my guy friends then? Or any male? So yes, I think I was getting checked out by the girls basektball team.

Then we went ice skating where I met my ice prince….Darrion

This is not a very good picture maybe someone else has a better one. But that’s my little ice prince. His name was Darrion; he was about 3 and wanted “skate with the pretty ladies” so Stevie and I helped him. He liked spinning and skating holding both our hands. His other favorite was when we were skating and his feet would slide apart we would tell him to “put your feet closer” so he would jump up in the air so when he landed his feet were together again.

We had lots of fun but I’m still exhausted!

I have really attractive friends…now wonder they were staring!!! Another really attractive, Jesus-loving, open, fun, single, available friend I have is Brandi.  🙂 I mean…I’m just saying….

Far From Profound

I have no profound thoughts. Not that I ever did. But at least I could borrow other thoughts and appear to have useful things to type on here. But then again I don’t think my blog is really one where people come seeking wisdom and profoundness to drip off the paragraphs like spilt soda dripping off a counter. Anyway, today profound thoughts are far from me. Maybe it’s because I haven’t really had school this one. I only went on Monday and my last class was cancelled.

Sometimes life just feels like it’s missing something (kinda like spice is missing from my blog). I feel ungrateful when I get this way. I know my life is great and I’m blessed and when I feel like it’s missing something I feel like a big snobby faced girl.

For instance, today I treated myself to an early birthday present with leftover scholarship money and got my hair down. The lady wanted to try something different and I agreed. Different is hard to adjust to sometimes. I think I will like it, eventually.

My birthday is on Monday and honestly I don’t mean to sound ungrateful but I don’t really care about my birthday. I really never have been one. Now I like to make sure everyone else celebrates but it’s not my thing. My mom and dad are coming and we are going out to dinner and I think my friend G-nasty and I are grabbing some sushi for lunch. But I have these two guy friends who keeps trying to throw me a house party and I ran out of nice ways to say no and kinda got attitudinal with them “I said I didn’t want a house party and if I wanted one why would I let you throw it” Bah…thats why they play that one song when I call. Whoops. I love them but no. Not doing it.

I love mix CD’s or playlists. They make me happy.

Also, I have a lot of guys who are friends and they provide for some great conversations. And being a girl they like to “run things by me” b/c I can keep their secret and apparently am quite the planner. Who knew.

Here are some tidbits:

*Friend Planing Honeymoon: So I’m not telling her where we are going. It’s my little surprise

Me: Uh, isn’t she quite the planner. How are you going to get her to do that?

Him: O she wants to know. But I’m just telling her what climate to pack for.

Me: Sweet. Good job friend.

Him: Can I run it by you.

Me: uh sure I don’t know her really well but ya

Him: good I can’t ask her friends they will tell her

Me: ya no prob

Him: ok well after the wedding it will be late and I don’t want her to get too tired before uh……play time..so I think we will just stay outside town

Me: did you seriously just refer to it as play time

Him: ha ha yes..sorry this is gonna be an awkward convo

Me: super

Him: and then we have that night to uh well never mind you’re not dumb and I’m really excited. Then we travel to FL and have a lazy day to have sex and go the beach and then we board a cruise where she might get sea sick so we will just have to find things to occupy our tiem in the cabin 😉 but it has lots of cool stuff and shopping and makes four stops and I figure plenty of sex. Then we have another lazy day in FL for more sex. Then we fly home the next evening for dinner and sex in our house.

Me: wow you thought of everything. better get dinner on the way home don’t want to waste anytime busting down those doors.

Him: good idea, I’ll write that down.

Friend getting ready to propose: Well I don’t really want to spend money on proposing I mean I already bought the ring

Me: You don’t have to buy anything. Just do something sentimental or something I don’t know. I just know she puts up with your being cheap and it will mean a lot if you put some thought and creativity into this.

Him: Like i need ideas.

Me: Give him 3 different ideas w/ the help of Jessica

Him: uh…well we don’t have school tomorrow maybe I will just pull it out of the snow.

Me: ha. well that’s a thought

Him: I’ll sleep on it.

Me: good luck

In Case You Were Wondering…

Today I…..

Stayed in bed for a long time afte I was awake

Played on my computer in bed

Watched a marathon of Miss America Race to the Crown or something like that

Took a shower (i know i know)

Got ready

Cleaned all the stuff out of my chair and off my bed

Put clean sheets on my bed

Hung out with Elisa

Went to Jess’ One Act (her’s was the only one with a decent story line and her and Nathan McVay rocked it)

Went to Walmart to get supplies

Ransacked Gena’s room for her 21st B-day…not our fault she went out of town

Didn’t do any homework

Didn’t put away my laundry fro 2 days ago

Didn’t clean my desk

Whew. 🙂 I like to pretend that I did a whole lot! 🙂 When in reality I just wasted enough time this morning doing nothing that the few hours I had left in my day went really fast!

Now off to bed for an early Sunday morning. Everyone please remember to text and twitter Stephanie tomorrow so she will be brave to try a new church and not be alone. Good day.

In Case You Were Wondering…

One Day

With our kids at youth group we are challenging them to be owned by Christ and to own Him. We are challenging them to be aware of how they act at school and home and what that says about them when they say I follow Christ. We are teaching them (sorry Whitney have to say it) to be authentic.

I think it’s something adults and youth leaders have yearly challenged their kids with. And honestly, they learn it best by seeing it acted out by the adults. So, if you’re up for the challenge, start with one day a week and live this song. Pray it, like really pray it. Be warned that it will rock your world in joyous and painful ways. You will lose the support of people while you gain the encouragement of others. You will see pain that you overlooked before and notice how far small acts of Christ-like love carry. You will be heartbroken and healed by the opportunities. You will be scared and confused. You will be changed and have the chance to change the world. And that’s just with one day.

What would your world look like if this is how you viewed it once a week?

What if you began to truly cultivate a heart and eyes like His? What would your life look life if this song became your heart?

Brandon Heath – Give Me Your Eyes

Look down from a broken sky

Traced out by the city lights

My world from a mile high

Best seat in the house tonight

Touch down on the cold black top

Hold on for the sudden stop

Breath in the familiar shock

Of confusion and chaos

All those people going somewhere

Why have I never cared

Give me your eyes for just one second

Give me your eyes so I can see

Everything that I keep missing

Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted

The ones that are far beyond my reach

Give me you heart for the ones forgotten

Give me your eyes so I can see

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

Step out on a busy street

See a girl and our eyes meet

Does her best to smile at me

To hide what’s underneath

There’s a man just to her right

Black suit and a bright red tie

Too ashamed to tell his wife

He’s out of work, He’s buying time

All those people going somewhere

Why have I never cared

Give me your eyes for just one second

Give me your eyes so I can see

Everything that I keep missing

Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted

The ones that are far beyond my reach

Give me you heart for the ones forgotten

Give me your eyes so I can see

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

Ive been here a million times

A couple of million eyes

Just move and pass me by

I swear I never thought that I was wrong

Well I want a second glance

So give me a second chance

To see you the way youve seen the people all along

Give me your eyes for just one second

Give me your eyes so I can see

Everything that I keep missing

Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted

The ones that are far beyond my reach

Give me you heart for the ones forgotten

Give me your eyes so I can see

Give me your eyes for just one second

Give me your eyes so I can see

Everything that I keep missing

Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted

The ones that are far beyond my reach

Give me you heart for the ones forgotten

Give me your eyes so I can see

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
